What happens when a fancy restaurant wants its own equally fancy wine to sell? They employ some high-brow, cork-slinging winemakers in Napa to make a custom label. They source fruit from premier vineyards that adorn some of the priciest bottles around.
What we can tell you is that it comes from the very somewhere in the smack middle of Oakville where birds of prey roam with neighboring wild beasts. More specifics will go to our grave, as we’re sworn to secrecy. Spies take that matter seriously. They simply can’t be disclosed in writing, unless the bottle’s actually selling for at least $150. As it should.

Yeah, we were floored when we learned where the fruit comes from. It all made more sense once we met what’s in the glass.
From the first sip you know it’s built differently. As in nowhere near our $44 deal today, but rather somewhere far, far north. Some wines just taste properly expensive, and this is one. Saying this wine is enjoyable is like saying a weekend getaway to Cabo without the screaming toddlers is a rather pleasant departure from your normal routine of cooking chicken nuggets and picking up the endless trail of destruction they leave in their wake.
DEEP, lush, and powerful, it exudes luxury from every angle. A torrent of sweet blackberry, dried blueberries and figs, black currants, and dark chocolate-covered raisins flood into every nook of your mouth. The toasty oak tastes luxurious just like the fruit, and the texture is all warm and inviting with a polished, silky-smooth, and creamy feel. MMMMM. If you like Inglenook’s Rubicon or Caymus’ Special Selection or other blue-chip big guns in that vicinity, we IMPLORE you to get some.
And oh, yeah, the winemaker. We ARE allowed to brag about him - none other than Tom Hinde, a name you may have heard from his three decades of experience in these parts, through instrumental roles at institutions such as Taub Family, Yao Family, and working on the winemaking team at Cardinale, Vérité, Lokoya, and Stonestreet. Whew! Talk about a pedigree.
These kinds of deals rarely come across our plate, but when they do, THEY SELL OUT REAL FAST. After the frenzy we saw with the 2017, we fully expect nothing but. Fair warning.
