Mission Codename Old School Cool
This one’s for all you old school Napa Cab lovers out there - super focused on the fruit, not overly extracted or covered in a thick layer of oak, and clocking in at a modest 13.7% alcohol. Also, the price seems to have an old school feel to it. No longer $75…much, MUCH less in fact. OH, and we have a small lot of SIGNED library selections (2012 and 2013 vintage) in the store. How cool is that?? Grab all three and make yourself a nice vertical tasting!
Palladian has been crafting killer wines for decades, in the heart of St. Helena. In fact, their vineyard sits just across the road from Bill Harlan’s Napa Reserve Winery where the Cabernet fetches $350+. They make just ONE wine each year, a Cabernet Sauvignon, and winemaker David Mahaffey (who has a birthday TODAY!!) has been making it for 17 years. He tends to the three acres of vines by hand, and believes in strict organic farming and low intervention winemaking techniques. It spent 24 months in French oak before resting for another three full years in the bottle - much longer than the typical Napa Cab. All this to say, it’s a labor of love and right now it’s primed for your enjoyment.
Anyways, the wine - medium weight and packed with juicy red fruits, raspberry and red cherry, a hint of cedar and tobacco and a dusting of dark cocoa powder, too. It has all the lush, ripe California fruit you’d expect from a Napa Cabernet and is immensely enjoyable on its own, but also to enjoy with food.
This small production (400 cases) wine is usually only available to mailing list members and high end restaurants but today it’s all YOURS at 53% off. Cabernet has been flying lately, and we’re sure this will disappear quickly.
