Mission Codename Buggin' Out
Ready for another super dope, wicked good, hella sweet Cabernet from one of our longtime favorite local Sonoma wineries?? High elevation, mountain grown, with ten years of age, plucked straight from the winery cellar and dropped on your doorstep. For…get this…$27 big ones? That’s 55% off the release price - SCORE! When this opportunity popped up, you bet we snatched up every bottle (spoiler alert: it wasn’t enough)!
The Watkins family began making wine in 1979 in true “garagiste” style, producing just a couple barrels in their garage. At the time, Randall Watkins was just a young ‘un. Fast forward to today and Randall is the owner of a beautiful, rugged plot of land laden with volcanic soil high atop the Maycamas mountain range in Sonoma. He brings his experience at Buena Vista and Hartford Court Winery to the table and makes some absolutely killer wines there. This lovely Cabernet you see here comes from the rockiest block of the vineyard.
With ten years of age, this small production (just six barrels) Cab retains TONS of fruit, but also has mellowed with ultra fine tannins and terrific complexity. The first whiff shows off that flashy, mineral mountain fruit. Still remarkably dense, with plenty of black cherry, blackberry, black tea and toasty oak, it has evolved beautifully over the years and still has room to age if you want.
Where else will you find an aged, single vineyard mountain Cabernet at this price? Peel yourself away from the morning cartoons or pancake making and get some - first come, first served! Ok, we’re out - have a great Sunday!
