Mission Codename Ursa Major
Move over Napa, we got a HUGE crush on a Sonoma Cabernet today! Specifically, on Huge Bear’s Knights Valley Cabernet. And we’re throwing down with a big discount, too – 50% off!!
Huge bear on the label seems directly related to the huge wine inside. Make no mistake, this is silky, mouthfilling Cabernet, with all the right stuff. Dark and incredibly concentrated, roaring with mocha, cherry jam, raspberry, cigar box, cassis and toasted sweet oak all wrapped in a velvety texture. Nothing shy about this one. Drinking perfect right now and definitely tastes like a $75+ Cabernet. Nobody will know you paid half that!
The Knights Bridge Vineyard is located on the southern boundary of the stunning Knights Valley AVA of Sonoma County. Rising from 300 to 900 feet in elevation on the rocky slopes of the Mayacamas mountain range north of Calistoga, it overlooks a spectacular display of rolling hills, steep mountains and gentle valleys. Blessed with a combination of iron-rich and white-ash tufa (calcium carbonate) soils, the terroir of Knights Bridge provides an ideal environment for Cabernet to thrive. Taking a sustainable approach, these carefully farmed hillsides share open space with wildlife habitats and riparian corridors, helping preserve nature’s delicate balance.
Accompanying this instant classic is a timeless story going back to the 1820s when a local newspaper headlined; “Huge Bear Attacks Knights Valley!” That literally happened, and about 2 centuries into his ancestry a Timothy Carl, geneticist and philanthropist, was struck by the parallels to his newfound obsession of starting a wine project. He teamed up with Burgundy and UC Davis trained veteran winemaker Douglas Danielak of Paras Vineyard, Jade Mountain, and Pont Neuf fame to capture some Huge Bear Wines into bottle. While Decanter named Huge Bear one of the “Famous Five Animal Wineries” worldwide, and Forbes picked it for a “Coolest Wine Labels” feature, this is a no joke wine inside that’ll put many a next-door neighbor Napa Valley Cabs to shame.
