Coho’s signature Headwaters Napa Valley Red is back with the latest vintage, and our tasting panel agrees, this is the best one yet. Coho is one of the Wine Spies’ all-time best-sellers. If you’ve had the Headwaters before, you know why. But if you haven’t been lucky enough to pop the cork on a Coho, do not delay in hitting that Buy button, because insane value like this is just what you’re looking for. It truly drinks like a much more expensive wine, and clearly James Suckling agreed, bestowing on it a well deserved 94 Points. Coho consistently impresses, each and every time.
In the glass we find a wine of deep, dark garnet, perfectly resembling the dense and beautiful stone itself. Coho never ceases to impress. As soon as you inhale, you are greeted with a perfumed bouquet of fresh, ripe red fruit including strawberry, bing cherry, boysenberry and rhubarb. Sandalwood and spice fill the senses as well. Equally bright and fresh on the palate, this wine unfolds in glorious layers of cherry, plum, espresso, dark chocolate, dried herbs, and baking spice. Though the aromas and flavors are exquisite, the mouthfeel is the highlight of this superb blend. It’s velvety smooth from start to finish, sliding over the tongue like a silken sheet, evenly filling every crevice on the palate. Top-notch. Though this wine needs no pairing to elevate it, if you’ve been waiting for the perfect wine to have that steak with, this is it.
Here is what the wine press has to say:
94 Points - James Suckling - “Aromas of blackberry and chocolate with spice and currant character. Hints of bark too. Full body, round and juicy tannins. Shows some tension for the vintage. Drink or hold.”
