Mission Codename The Hedonist
Welcome to our latest offering from our favorite Paso Robles winery, Doce Robles. This is an Ultra QPR (Quality to Price Ratio) wine which means that it drinks well above its super low price. Today’s Doce Robles 2015 Paso Robles Malbec Estate Reserve is one impressive, fruit-driven, hedonistic delight that’ll thrill any Malbec lover.
The center is a very dark, high-density garnet while the edge is the characteristically bright fuchsia of Malbec. The nose is very fragrant with the hot Paso climate showing through, producing notes of molasses, potpourri, plum compote, bramble, and sandalwood. It’s extremely jammy on the palate with huge fruit notes blackberry and boysenberry. There are date and fig preserves as well with cherry fruit leather. Super tasty. It’s a hedonistic California fruit bomb in the best sense, with delicious berry flavor unencumbered by drying tannins. Grilled veggies, from zucchini, asparagus, peppers to mushroom, seasoned with olive oil, sea salt, and Italian herbs and lightly charred.
The small-production Doce Robles Winery is the very first winery to have appeared on the now winery-heavy Highway 46. Doce Robles’ neighbors include the likes of Peachy Canyon, Sextant and Castoro Cellars… to name just a few. Doce Robles planted their vineyards in 1996 to Barbera, Zinfandel, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. Primitivo, Petite Sirah, and Malbec were also planted in 2010 and 2012.
