Mission Codename Destination's Calling
Jaws dropped unanimously when this came across our Tasting Panel palates in a recent flight of Sauvignon Blanc. There is no denying how much we all adore Maroon wines, especially their Cabernet Sauvignons. Just imagine how awesome a white Maroon rarity can be. 4 barrels folks, just 4 barrels made, and we offer you first access… With plenty of warm days and night left in the year, trust us, you need as much of this as you can get.
The shimmering straw-golden hue in the glass immediately catches and pleases the eye. Abundant lemon rind, grapefruit and quince notes are drenched in crushed rock hints, defining the perfume. Dry, yet richly ripe in mouthfeel, offering plenty of zing through passionfruit and honeydew. The textured, weighty palate culminates in a lingering effusive lemongrass note on the creamy finish. Playful while serious, this is deserving of a seafood feast with friends and family.
Having access to premium fruit is one thing, knowing exactly what to do with it is another. Paul Maroon has masterfully brought out the best of the cool climate of Chiles Valley here, perfectly ripe while with freshness plenty. Whole cluster pressing, cold fermentation, extended neutral barrel aging only partially explain how a Sauvignon Blanc can be this yummy, the rest is pure artistry and a vision. There are a few $100+ Napa Valley Sauvignon Blancs this reminds us of, with a 50% break bringing it to under $20, there is not much to think about.
