Mission Codename Prince of the Playground
When we first showcased a Playground Cellars wine, earlier this year, it went on to become one of our personal favorites in recent memory. Once our Operatives got a taste, it then became one of the most requested wines of the year but then quickly sold out. But don’t worry, Operatives, we’ve managed to get yet another delicious Playground wine. Grab some while you can…
In the glass is a dark and brooding blood red, encircled by a pretty magenta ring at the edge. The nose is spicy and full of potpourri, dried roses, roasted almonds, marzipan, orange blossom honey, and brambles. Taste the rainbow. It ranges from blackberry and black currant, to navel orange citrus to creamy dulce de leche, to spicy nutmeg. Nothing like a red blend to deliver a complex, structured, and layered drinking experience: It evolves every moment from start to finish. Get back to basics and serve something simple like meatloaf. Let this wine be the star of the show.
We’ve hardly met anyone as passionate about wine as winemaker, Joe White and his wife and winery partner, Suzanne Berkley, who is a Certified Sommelier and Certified Specialist of Wine. Their Playground Cellars 2014 Napa Valley Proprietary Red is a juicy, complex, easy-drinker that our whole tasting panel just adores.
Enjoy!
