Mission Codename Oak-y dokey!
Are you ready for a quintessential Paso Robles Syrah? Today’s delicious Doce Robles 2013 Paso Robles Syrah Estate Reserve is deep, dark and downright delectable! Our whole tasting panel was gaga for this smoky, spiced treat - and when they learned of the low price of the wine, well, they wanted in!
This pretty wine has the darkest ruby hues at the core, with a medium width band of pink at the meniscus. On the nose, sweetness melds with richness as aromas of Black cherry, sandalwood perfume, cedar, blueberry compote, blackberry preserve, sweet tobacco, baking spice, and a hint of pink peppercorn waft from the glass. Juicy and bold on the palate, this classic Paso Syrah is big on flavor, with juicy Blackberry jam, Bing cherry, young raspberry, and cassis, with earthy spice, cocoa dust, subtle sweet tobacco leaf, and a hint of black pepper. The wine moves quickly across the palate before settling in at the mid-palate, where delicious flavors are seemingly pressed onto the tongue. These flavors persist for a very long time, dwindling slowly. When flavors finally do fade, the palate is left with an intriguing, softly grippy sensation and a slowly spreading dryness that extends to the lips, gums, and cheeks. Enjoy this luscious wine with a grilled lamb burger, chicken shawarma, or your finest lamb shanks.
The small-production Doce Robles Winery is the very first winery to have appeared on the now winery-heavy Highway 46. Doce Robles’ neighbors include the likes of Peachy Canyon, Sextant and Castoro Cellars… to name just a few. Doce Robles planted their vineyards in 1996 to Barbera, Zinfandel, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. Primitivo, Petite Sirah, and Malbec were also planted in 2010 and 2012.
Enjoy!!
