Mission Codename Highest Climber
Winemaker Timothy Milos’ resume reads like a who’s who of the most prestigious wineries on the planet. Baron Philippe de Rothschild, Opus One, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Black Coyote and many more have been graced by his fine touch. Milos has won more 95+ point scores than almost any other winemaker. Today, we give you the special opportunity to try his Viluko Vineyards 2012 Sonoma County Estate Cabernet Sauvignon.
This wine is exquisite - and way underpriced if ask us. Especially at today’s very special Wine Spies price.
In the glass, it broods inky black at the center with a thick garnet lip that hangs onto the glass as its swirled. The enticing bouquet is quintessential Sonoma Cab with ripe aromatic fruit of cherry and plum compote with a distinctive dusty bramble. It smells perfectly aged with pleasant pipe tobacco and leather notes. On the palate, the fruit is perfectly balanced between fresh berry notes of boysenberry, cherry and cranberry, with mature barrel notes of mocha and cacao. Perfectly structured. It’s the epitome of fruit-forward with the fruit hitting vibrantly up front and cresting with the finish focused on tannin structure are more earthy nuances. The beauty of Sonoma is with the money you saved on wine, you can spend it on the pairing! Go for surf n’ turf with a well-seasoned steak and buttered scallops.
Grab some while you can. This wine may just sell out before the day is over. Enjoy!
Here’s what the wine press has to say.
90 points - Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate - “The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is somewhat tannic and closed, but offers notes of crème de cassis, red currants, licorice and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied with moderately high tannin, it requires another 1-2 years of bottle age. There is a lot of potential here and it should eventually merit a score in the low-nineties. Drink 2018-2028.”
91 points - Wilfred Wong of Wine.com - “A distinctively fine Cabernet Sauvignon, with a Sonoma County AVA attached to it. The 2012 Viluko Vineyards, a solid and well-built wine that exhibits ripe fruit and smoke. Its medium bodied and mildly tannic structure make it perfect for current enjoyment.”
