In the 11 years that we’ve been showcasing wines online, we’ve shown some pretty stellar selections. We’ve always taken great care when presenting imports, particularly those from Spain. Our hand-picked selections are always great, but today’s Torres 2014 “Cos Perpetual” Priorat DOC Red Blend is the best we’ve ever shown.

This Spanish beauty is almost completely black with stunning magenta shining through where you can see through at all. Its fascinating nose will instantly win new fans of Spanish wine and the Cariñena and Garnacha varietals, with its complex violets, lime citrus, limestone minerality, vanilla, and strawberries. It has beautiful extraction and concentration of flavor with notes of lavender, cacao, blueberry preserves, cigar box, and subtle tobacco. It’s very evident from the structure of the wine that this was a carefully crafted wine in the hands of an expert - it has soft, supple tannin with fine acidity hanging in balance. It concentrates in the center of the tongue and ever-so-slowly spreads out to a decadent finish. If you’re looking for an alternative to Cabernet for your steak dinner - this is it. You can’t ask for a better companion for your ribeye.

The Priorat D.O.Q. (or Priorata DOCa) in Spain’s Catalonia (Bajo Penedes) is a region that is known for making rich and bold red blends of Cabernet, Garnacha (Grenache), Carinena (Carignan), Merlot, and other local varietals. And while neighboring regions are well known for the region’s sparkling classic Cava, this regions dry and warm climate and extremely poor solid results in grape vines that struggle, leading to intense and flavorful fruit of great character.
