Mission Codename Harvest Moon
What did you think of the video in today’s Daily Dispatch? Did it help you to decide whether or not to click through to today’s special sale? Let us know. Speaking of today’s sale, we’re recommending that you stock up on today’s juicy Ty Caton Vineyards 2016 Sonoma County Upper Bench Block Three Red Wine. This Super QPR wine rocks…
You can tell right off the bat by the density, it’s not going to be a light bodied Merlot with the Cab Sauv pairing. The nose boasts some ripe red fruit notes with cranberry, red plum, and cherry medley. There’s also allspice and black tea. The palate, however, brings the focus to the dark fruit with black plum, fig, date, rhubarb with some tobacco and coffee flavors in the mix. Merlot and Cabernet are a happy couple, with Cab providing a weighty counterpoint that fills the lower palate, while the Merlot rounds it out. This awesome any-night-of-the-week wine would be great for spaghetti and meatballs.
This wine hails from Ty’s fabled Upper Bench Vineyard in the Moon Mountain AVA, where his top-selling wines hail from. Officially recognized in 1981, the Moon Mountain AVA (American Viticultural Area) is a sub-appellation of the broader Sonoma Valley AVA in Sonoma County California. With 1500 acres under vine, the area ranges from 400 feet in elevation to over 200 feet. Thin, volcanic soils, which impart a certain terroir rest on ancient lava flows. Winds from both the San Pablo Bay to the south and the Pacific Ocean to the west provide the grapes with evening cooling. These all add up to wines of rich, distinctive character. Moon Mountain has been a source of cherished wine grapes since the 1860s. Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel reign supreme in this area, which is crowned by Louis M. Martini’s famed Monte Rosso vineyard.
Ty’s wines have been featured on Wine Spies more than 30 times in these last 12+ years. We keep going back for more because we simply adore his wonderful wines. We feature Ty’s wines because his careful, studious approach always results in a well-crafted wine that delivers real value - and our Operatives have taken notice. Snap yours up before they’re all gone because this fan favorite will not last the day!
This special treat is offered to you with our very enthusiastic recommendation.
