Mission Codename Passion Play
Attention Zin lovers!
You do not want to miss out on today’s bodacious, mouthwatering, delicious Playground Cellars 2015 Napa Valley Howell Mountain Zinfandel. We’re always on the lookout for a great Howell Mountain Zinfandel, but they’re so darn difficult to come by. When we tasted this wine, well, we flipped out! This wine is very very special.
Wines of this caliber fetch prices of $50 or more, making today’s wine an exceptional value.
This vivacious Zin is a beauty with a consistent crimson hue and lower density giving it the appearance of a glittering ruby. The nose is fresh and juicy with big plum and cherry notes intermingled with cedar and replete with toasty vanilla notes of creme brulee and toffee. Big yum on the palate with explosive blackberry flavor backed by a medley of boysenberry, wild strawberry, raspberry, and cherry. Did we mention the berry notes? Zinfandel lovers show up for big, fruit forward flavor bombs with barrel spice that are extremely approachable and easy to drink. This Napa Zin ticks every box. This would be perfect for a Hawaiian luau with thin sliced short rib, mac n’ cheese and grilled pineapple.
We’ve hardly met anyone as passionate about wine as winemaker, Joe White and his wife and winery partner, Suzanne Berkley, who is a Certified Sommelier and Certified Specialist of Wine. Their Playground Cellars 2015 Napa Valley Howell Mountain Zinfandel is a vivacious, berry-rich bomber of a Zinfandel.
About Howell Mountain: Napa County’s Howell Mountain AVA (American Viticultural Area), established in 1984, is known for its wines of deep concentration and intensity. The higher elevation and relatively flat aspect make the location great for Zinfandel vineyards. The first vines in the Howell Mountain area were planted in the 1880s.
The AVA is located in the Howell Mountains within the Vaca Range on the northeast side of California’s Napa Valley. The boundaries of the AVA are dictated by vineyard land located at elevations at least 1,400 feet. Prior to Prohibition in the United States, the region was best-known for its Zinfandel, before Cabernet Sauvignon took the throne as the dominant grape variety in the region.
We guarantee that you will love this wine!
