Mission Codename Get Some More
We’ve been selling the wines of Peterson Winery for more than a decade now. In that time, our Operatives have been treated to some of the best wines to come out of the Dry Creek Valley. Today, we proudly feature Peterson’s flagship blend, their Peterson Winery 2013 GSM Bradford Mtn. Vineyard Red Wine. Grab some while you can!
This limited production wine was the result of a vineyard replanting in 2007, in which the Petersons experimented with limited plantings of Rhone (Southern France) varietals of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvède, and Carignane, all of which feature in today’s delicious blend.
This delightful GSMc blend (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvède, with a touch of Carignane) shows off a light garnet core spreading to a marmalade edge. On the nose, you’ll find blackberry and plum compote, with butterscotch, coffee, rose and potpourri background notes. The palate catches you by surprise with dusty bramble enveloped by ripe and juicy boysenberry and blackberry. Rhubarb and pomegranate make the scene as well. Dry Creek Valley delivers big wines and this is no exception. It’s not hot, but the alcohol powers the fruit and lifts it into the nose with great effect. If you’ve got friends coming over soon and need something that will be a big hit, break out this bottle and whip up some flank steak fajitas with sauteed peppers and onions, seasoned with Mexican spices. Fiesta Magnifique!
Grower Fred Peterson has been growing grapes and making Peterson wines in California for the last quarter century. Fred’s son, Jamie, literally grew up in the winery, shadowing his father and learning the craft from a very young age. Fred, who now focuses on growing, has handed the winemaking over to Jamie who, for the last several vintages, has been crafting one remarkable and delicious Peterson wine after another.
