Wow, did we luck out with today’s wine. Erath is the premier Pinot Noir producer in Oregon’s Pinot-perfect Dundee Hills Appellation. Today’s Erath Winery 2014 Prince Hill Pinot Noir is a very special wine. Our entire tasting panel was floored by its soft feel and great fruit. Quantity is limited so please reserve yours now.
This Oregon Pinot has a beautiful clarity with a ruby gemstone coloration that evenly and smoothly transitions to a beautiful magenta. It’s got an amazing nose that’s simultaneously familiar to Oregon Pinot Noir, while simultaneously offering some unique and intriguing character. It’s got a bouquet of dusty bramble, straw, rhubarb, sandalwood, nag champa, dried sage, and dried rose petals. The fruit is more expressive on the palate with a nice bing cherry, wild strawberry, rhubarb pie, and allspice dominating with an interesting mango twist. This wine has an extremely approachable mouthfeel that has body, but hangs effortlessly on the tongue for an incredibly smooth drinking experience. If you’ve got a great seafood joint nearby, head there now with this bottle in hand and order the cioppino.
The Dundee Hills AVA is an American Viticultural Area located in Oregon’s Yamhill County. The AVA is entirely contained within the broader Willamette Valley AVA, and is 28 miles to the southwest of Portland, near the towns of Dundee and Dayton. The area is 6,940 acres in total size, with 1,300 acres planted to wine grapes. The Dundee Hills are a north-south oriented line of hills on the western side of the Willamette River valley. The soil is red in color, rich in iron, relatively infertile, making it suitable for grape cultivation. The region gets 30 to 45 inches of rainfall per year. The Chehalem Mountains to the north protect the region from the cool breezes that enter Willamette Valley from the Columbia Gorge. More than 25 wineries and independent vineyards in this region produce over 44,000 cases of wine annually.

Here’s what the wine press has to say.
92 Points - James Suckling - “A delicate red with a vivid bouquet reminiscent of violets, strawberries and rose petals. The palate is expressive yet delicate with plenty of berry character, silky tannins and a clean finish.”
91 Points - Wine Spectator - “Light-footed, this polished style injects lively acidity into transparent cherry and raspberry flavors, lingering on the refined finish. Drink now through 2022.”
