The 2014 August Briggs Napa Valley Syrah is produced from the world class Page-Nord Vineyard. This beautiful vineyard site is located just south of the town of Yountville in the middle of the Napa Valley. With cool foggy mornings and quite warm afternoons, this vineyard produces grapes of intense color with distinctive flavors. Almost black in color with hues of dark purple this wine is full of blackberry flavors and roasted oak and smoky aromas. The bouquet is complex with the dark fruits accented by licorice and smoked meat aromas. On first taste, it is full in body with moderate acidity and bold tannins. The acids lengthen the palate to give a robust finish. Try one tonight with a heavy roasted meat or strong cheese….or better yet lay it down for a few years to let the tannins and acids mellow for a more supple drinking experience.
