Mission Codename Rockpile of Ages
Today’s wine is quite the find, Operative! This Yokayo 2014 Rockpile Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon was made by superstar winemaker, David Rosenthal, who has quite the touch. Today’s wine rocks! Quantity is limited, and our pricing makes this wine a no-brainer, so we encourage you to reserve yours soon.
This Cabernet features an intense garnet core spreading out to a very thin lip of magenta at only the outermost edge. A fragrant and varietally-correct nose comes off this beautiful Cabernet, full of strawberry, cherry, leather, currant, violets, sandalwood, lavender and subtle cardamom. The palate is equally gorgeous with extremely rich molasses gingerbread cookie, vanilla, potpourri, walnut, plum and cassis. Rockpile gets very hot during the day and this develops some robust fruit which lends itself very well to Cabernet - This wine is an excellent example with robust tannin providing the lattice for a complexity of fruit and spice flavors to develop. This is a crowd-pleasing wine, so go ahead and finish the job with a nostalgic favorite like mom’s meatloaf.
The legendary Rockpile AVA (American Viticultural Area) is one of the most sought-after AVAs. While Rockpile is one of the newest AVAs in California, receiving status on April 29th, 2002, the area has been referred to as Rockpile since the 1850’s. Located in Northern Sonoma County, at the northwest corner of Dry Creek Valley, the Rockpile AVA encompasses nearly 15,000 acres, of which less than 160 are planted to vineyard. This makes Rockpile one of the smallest AVAs in the United States in terms of acreage planted.
Enjoy!
