How well do we love the wines of Miro Tcholakov? So well that Miro has his own Agent name… and so well that we’ve featured his wines more than 2 dozen times in the last decade. Miro’s wines are always ready to drink gems that are expressive, elegant and filled with juicy fruit. Today’s budget selection will captivate you.
This wine has an inky dark coloring of deep garnet to a nearly royal purple lip. This Zin has a nice bright nose of fresh red fruit of mainly strawberry, with great accompanying notes of red licorice, brown spice, and limestone minerality. As soon as you take a sip, “Yum!” comes to mind. That’s the varietally-correct mix of all the berries (strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, and blueberry) along with vanilla, gingerbread, and creme de caramel. Nicely balanced, medium bodied with a nice off-dry composition to drive that tasty fruit, slightly drying tannins leading to a very long finish with the fresh fruit flavors hanging out in the center of the tongue for ages. Zinfandel is often overlooked as a companion to a great dessert, but this wine would be excellent with french vanilla ice cream drizzled with a raspberry chocolate ganache. Yum!
Miro is like some sort of wine wizard, crafting wines that are exceptional and ready to drink soon after bottling. How he achieves this must be magic. Enjoy now, or cellar a few bottles for the next few years. We’ll feel lucky if we can squirrel away some of this extremely food-friendly wine for the coming months.
Oh, what’s Miro’s Agent name, you ask? He gave himself the moniker, Agent KGB!
Cheers!
