Mission Codename Idle Grapes
We didn’t have to make a deal with the Devil to get our hands on today’s heavenly Rockburn Wines 2015 Devil’s Staircase Central Otago Pinot Gris. This dynamic wine hits all the right notes, from its expressive nose to its delicious and deeply flavored palate and crisp mouthfeel. Our tasting panel says, “Stock up on this one!”
This Pinot Gris has a gorgeous pale straw complexion with crystal-clear clarity. At first sniff, this wine is bursting with fresh lychee fruit. Diving back in for more you’ll find layers of aromatic complexity with notes of peach, mango, papaya, and amaretto. Wow! The palate is extremely dynamic as well with tasty crisp green apple, nectarine, lemon-lime citrus, peach, and pistachio. It’s got a lovely crisp and clean mouthfeel that exits the palate as gracefully as it enters. You’ll want to find something lively and fresh for this one. Try a mixed citrus salad with blood orange and grapefruit wedges on a bed of arugula.
Devil’s Staircase wines are inspired by the winding road leading from Queenstown to Kingston along the shores of Lake Wakatipu. Sourced from several Central Otago vineyards, Devil’s Staircase Pinot Noir is a beautifully balanced wine, with equal parts Nice (lush fruit flavors) and Naughty (spice and earthiness).
