Tasting Notes
The 2014 is golden in color with aromas of bright tropical fruit and green apple. On the palate the wine has a medium weight and is supported by a pleasant acidity. The finish is long and persistent.
Winemaking Notes
The 2014 Chardonnay was harvested by hand in the second week of September. After hand sorting and a gentle whole cluster press, the wine was allowed to cold settle overnight before fermentation commenced in French cooperage. (10% new, 10% 1 yr old, 80% neutral.) The wine remained in barrel, sur-lie for 18 months.
Duvarita Vineyard
We are very pleased to work with this wonderful sustainable vineyard right next to the Santa Rita Hills. Brooke Williams takes great pride in the farming of this 26 acre site. Our Chardonnay is comprised of three clones, as we feel the sum is greater than the parts in this case. Aged in a combination of new, 1 yr old and neutral oak vessels. This wine is Santa Barbara in a glass. The tropical nose, pleasant acidity and salinity that keeps the region in check, all resonate from the glass.
Wine Origin
Duvarita vineyard is located in Santa Barbara County, west of the Sta. Rita Hills. The vineyard lies on gentle, south-facing slopes of almost pure sand. As of 2013, the vineyard has been farmed biodynamically, although it is not certified as of yet. The low vigor soils, small canopy and a low fruit zone combine to make this one of the earliest ripening vineyards in the area. The small clusters of fruit provide for wines with great intensity.
