Well-balanced and nicely centered, the bright raspberry aromas are complimented with flavors of black currant and red plum. This Grand Horse is a classically structured California Zinfandel that shows an elegant structure and finesse. Drink now through 2018.
Vineyard Notes
In the early days of Lodi’s grape growing experiments, an under-the-radar wine region situated 90 miles east of San Francisco, was once known for supplying low-cost grapes that made their way into North Coast Chardonnays, Cabernet Sauvignons, Zinfandels, and Viogniers. Lodi and the eponymous viticultural area around it is a historically rich farming region. Vineyards in Lodi benefit from moderate summers due to the cooling Sacramento Delta, and some vines are over 100 years old — like The Mother Vine, planted in 1893 at Concannon Vineyard.
Today, Lodi is famous for their jammy and spicy Zinfandel wines, notably from Ravenswood and Laurel Glen, which helped shine a spotlight on the region, boosting its presence in markets around the U.S. Other grapes like Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier, Albarino and Grenache can also be found, and it’s interesting to note that nearly 80 percent of Cabernet Sauvignon planted in California, stems from the Concannon Clones 7, 8 and 11.
