Mission Codename Grigsby, I presume?
At long last, Cornerstone Cellars graces our pages once again. We practically had to beg for today’s Cornerstone Cellars 2013 Grigsby Vineyard Yountville Syrah - but the winery relented, and gave us a small allocation of this truly special wine. Ample of nose and on the palate, this is a true Syrah lover’s wine.
This Syrah is a very dark garnet, almost black, with a very thin ring of ruby encircling it at the edge. In addition to ample aromas of Syrah’s trademark white pepper, this fragrant wine has nuances of blood orange, violets, leather, and tobacco leaf. Very delicious on the palate with smooth flavors of graham cracker, plum, black cherry, cola, and caramel. If you haven’t already, this might be the wine to make you fall in love with Syrah. It’s rich, deep and weighty, yet incredibly smooth with supple tannin from start to finish. It’d be absolutely fabulous with a dish of linguica sausage sautéed with peppers and onions.
Some of the most exclusive and sought-after wines in the Napa Valley come from the Yountville AVA (American Viticultural Area), where wineries like Blankiet, Ad Vivum, Casa Piena, Chanticleer and Kapcsandy call home. This special slice of Napa Valley heaven is also one of the best fine-dining spots on the planet. The small town of Yountville is host to Chef Thomas Keller’s fabled French Laundry, Chef Michael Chiarello’s restaurants, Bottega and Bouchon, and other incredible fine dining spots.
Today’s special wine is a must-have for any fan of really fine Syrah.
Enjoy!
