Mission Codename 38 years ago...
Today, we’ve got one of the most inviting and delicious Zinfandels that we’ve tasted in a long time. No wonder this wine is so good, for it was made by one of our favorite local winemakers, Randall Watkins. Randall grew up on his family vineyard, where he learned of wine at a very early age.
Randall went on to work for some of California’s best-known wineries, like Buena Vista Winery and Hartford Family Winery in Sonoma County, Carmen Vineyards in Chile, and as assistant winemaker at S. Anderson Vineyards in Napa and more recently at an Operative-favorite winery, Bugay Vineyards in Napa.
Today’s wine is soooooo inviting on the nose, with intriguing aromas of blackberry preserve, boysenberry, black cherry, sweet tobacco leaf, plum, dusty bramble, spice box, and cracked peppercorn. Juicy and dark on the palate, with rich flavors of black cherry juice, blackberry, cocoa powder, toasty oak, spice box, cassis, dried fall leaves, and a hint of cracked peppercorn.
Our entire tasting panel adores today’s wine and we’re certain that you will, too!
