Mission Codename The Devil's Playdrink
By unanimous decision among our tasting panel members, we’ve declared that today’s Rockburn Wines 2015 Devil’s Staircase Central Otago Pinot Noir is the best New Zealand wine that we’ve ever shown.
This 91 point wine (which deserves a higher score!) is a devilishly great wine. At today’s price, you’re getting a steal of a deal.
Beautifully aromatic, with fragrances of Bing cherry, black cherry, pomegranate, raspberry, cured beef, oak, chocolate covered cherry, bramble, sweet spice and flint.
Incredibly delicious on the palate, with abundant flavors of Bing cherry, pomegranate, cranberry, wild strawberry, clove, savory herb, dusty bramble, flinty mineral and mixed spice.
Devil’s Staircase wines are inspired by the winding road leading from Queenstown to Kingston along the shores of Lake Wakatipu. Sourced from several Central Otago vineyards, Devil’s Staircase Pinot Noir is a beautifully balanced wine, with equal parts Nice (lush fruit flavors) and Naughty (spice and earthiness).
Very highly recommended.
Here’s what the wine press has to say:
91 points - Wine Spectator - “Generous and plump, with blackberry, raspberry coulis and plum flavors that are round and velvety. Vanilla bean and warm clove accents emerge on the finish. Drink now through 2027.”
