Mission Codename Pinnacle Pride
Agent Red raided the private wine library of Dyer Vineyard, where he discovered a small cache of their stupendous and perfectly aged 2004 Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon.
This 95 point wine is one of the best mountain Cabs we’ve featured.
When Agent Red visited Dyer recently, they opened up a bottle of their 2004, a wine that they’ve held in their library for special occasions. He fell in love with the wine at first sip - and begged them to give us a small allocation for our Operatives. They relented, making a handful of cases available.
Thank you, Dyer!
Elegant aromas of dark fruit, spice and earth waft from the glass. Juicy black cherry, mulberry, and smoky raspberry lead the way, followed closely by cigar box, pencil shavings, espresso bean, anise and sweet spice.
Opulent and rich on the palate, this perfectly aged beauty oozes flavors of black cherry, mulberry, raspberry, ripe strawberry, dried mushroom, cedar, tobacco leaf, black licorice, dried violets, dark chocolate and mixed spice.
Winemakers Bill and Dawnine have a combined 80 years of winemaking experience. They’ve made wines for Sterling Vineyards (for 20 years) and Domaine Chandon (25 years) while also acting as consulting winemakers for Miramar Torres Estate, Spring Mountain Winery and Frogs’ Leap Winery.
It’s no wonder that the pairing of these two legendary winemakers resulted in an exquisite wine such as today’s namesake Cabernet.
Drinking incredibly well now. Cellar for an additional 15 - 20 years.
Enjoy this boldly recommended wine in great health!

What the wine press has to say:
95 points - “Sommelier to the Stars” Christopher Sawyer @sawyersommelier - “To cellar collectors who love red wines from Napa Valley, 2004 is a memorable vintage known for its deep flavors, elegant texture, and how well the wines show with more time in the bottle. For those reasons, it’s that much more special when you come across a bottle of the Dyer 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon from the winery’s estate vineyard on Diamond Mountain near Calistoga.
Located on the rugged hillside slopes of the Diamond Mountain District, this special vineyard is owned by star winemakers Bill and Dawnine Dyer. In addition to Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2004 vintage features smaller fractions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
Rich, elegant and expressive, the wine opens up with lovely scents of ripe wild berries, dark cherry, black licorice, roasted espresso, graphite, forest floor, savory spices and cigar box.
On the palate, the flavors seduce the senses with lavish notes of fresh cassis, cherry, dried blueberry, mulberry, and hints of fresh black truffle, mocha and English toffee. The texture is soft, smooth and further enhanced with a magnificent mixture of vibrant acidity, supple tannins, and a chalky accent leading to a long, dry and rewarding finish.
Pure mountain fruit at it’s finest.
Only 410 cases made.
Try this wine with fresh pasta with a hearty red sauce, slow-roasted chicken with rosemary, seared duck, beef bourguignon, grilled steaks, rack of lamb, and sharp cheeses. “
