Mission Codename Am I dreaming?
Today’s Gary Farrell 2012 Russian River Valley Chardonnay is a stunner, dear Operative. This complex, delicious Chardonnay is a real delight - with food or as a wonderful aperitif. We’ll have a few bottles on our Thanksgiving tables to be sure. Supply is very limited and this wine will sell out.
This wine was made by Theresa Heredia. Agent Red first met Theressa when she made wine for Joseph Phelps Winery. As superb as her Phelps wines were, she’s really come into her own at the historic Gary Farrell Winery, where she leads the winemaking.
Today’s Chardonnay is a real achievement.
This limited-availability wine is complex and full on the nose, with baked apple, white peach, dried apricot, lime flower, Meyer lemon, river rock and a very subtle hint of white spice.
On the palate, rich and dense with flavors of Meyer lemon, young white peach, lime, honeysuckle, pineapple, butter rum, lime leaf, subtle white spice and toasty vanilla.
We hope that you manage to get your hands on some.
Cheers!!
Here’s what the wine press has to say:
~
“Silky and smooth with bright pear and citrus, long and elegant, balanced and juicy.” – 91 points - Anthony Dias Blue, The Tasting Panel, June 2014

“This is the winery’s largest-production Chardonnay; it is made with grapes from eight RRV vineyards, including Rochioli, Allen, and Olivet Lane Vineyards. It is very dry, light to- medium-bodied, fresh and lovely with notes of lime, quite lean in structure, with lively acidity. It has very good concentration, is vibrant and alive. Very impressive.” – 91 points - Wine Review Online, July 2014

“A mix of fruit spanning across the Russian River Valley, this complex Chardonnay is so inviting and approachable. Brimming in ripe Gravenstein apple and baking spices, it conveys alluring and lush crispness as well as balanced fruit and floral aromas.” – 90 points - Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast, November 2014
