Today’s Saddleback Cellars 2013 Dry Creek Valley Aleatico Rosé is a bold, beautiful, delicious wine that our entire tasting panel went crazy for. Unfortunately, the winery didn’t make a ton of it - and while we got our hands on every last case that we could, this wine will sell out.

This big Rosé is made from the Aleatico grape, which is a red Italian wine grape variety. Aleatico is the primary grape in the cult wine Aleatico di Portoferraio made in Elba. Aleatico is grown most commonly in the Lazio and Apulia regions in Italy. In Chile the grape is known as Red Moscatel. Aleatico also thrives - in smaller quantities, granted - in Mudgee in New South Wales, Australia and in California.

An Aleatico Rosé is something of a wonder. A delicious, aromatic wonder.

This wine is very fragrant, with aromas of watermelon, passion fruit, cherry cocktail, young strawberry, tart dried cranberry and young raspberry with a slight hint of white pepper. Sweet and delightfully, softly tart on the palate with complex flavors of alpine strawberry, cranberry, Bing cherry, red plum and cherry jolly rancher.
