Mission Codename The Greatest
Peter Mathis is is best known for his work at Ravenswood Winery, where his Zins and and other wines have been the recipient of scores and awards galore. In 1997, he purchased his own vineyard, where he has been perfecting the art of Grenache ever since. Today’s wine is, without a doubt, the finest Grenache we have ever featured… and that’s really saying something!
Today’s Mathis Wine 2011 Sonoma Valley Grenache is a beautiful wine! It is incredibly aromatic, with bold, perfumed cherry, black cherry, mulberry, cassis and raspberry compote out in front. Then, as the wine breathes, it unveils sweet pipe tobacco, soft cedar, dusty dried leaves, bramble and a hint of white pepper.
On the palate, you’ll experience an elegant, delicious explosion of flavors, with jammy blackberry and raspberry preserve, followed by black cherry juice, plum juice, cassis, cigar box and subtle white pepper, with a hint of graphite at the very end.
Enjoy now, but do yourself a great favor and keep some on hand for Thanksgiving!
