Mission Codename Happy Earth Day
Today’s Ottimino 2011 Biglieri Vineyard Zinfandel is 100% dry farmed. That means that the grower didn’t use any water that didn’t fall from the skies in 2011. And 2011 was a fairly dry year. What effect does dry farming have on a wine? Well, limited water puts a ton of stress on the grapes which, in turn, causes the vine to ramp up its protection for the fruit. This imparts flavors and complexities that are unique to a dry farmed wine.
Really aromatic, especially once the wine has had a chance to breathe. Right up front, blackberry, black cherry and cigar box delight the nose. Right behind these, sensational notes of plum, bramble and tobacco leaf, with an intriguing hint of spiced rum.
Enjoy this superb - and very highly recommended wine while you do some good for California’s water table. At 50% off, you’ll also be doing some good for your wallet!
