Mission Codename Mountain Man
Zinfandel grown in the upper elevations of Lake County’s High Valley AVA is absolutely equal to Napa Valley wine. It’s the same geological perspective, same mountain range, and same blazing sun with vines grown on top of an ancient volcano. Few consumers beyond Northern California seem to know about the excitement contained in these Lake County vineyards, but things are changing quickly. You’ve been advised.
Where Dry Creek Valley Zin has clove and blackberry, High Valley Zin exhibits raspberry and stone. Smoked stone, dare we say, volcanic in nuance! Grower Clay Shannon is one of the most progressive (and impressive) growers we know. His Zin reminds us more of a Taurasi or super Sicilian. The volcano effect.
