Mission Codename Better than Bollinger?!
Today’s En Tirage 1992 Methode Champenoise Extra Brut is in incredibly rare and incredibly delicious wine of the kind we don’t often see - in fact, this might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Today’s wine was recently disgorged, which means that the wine rested on its lees (the yeast cells, grape seeds, pulp, stems, skins, and tartrates that separate from the juice during aging) for 22 years before the wine was disgorged (lees removed and then topped and sealed). Along the way, the wine has gathered complexity, richness and depth. This incredible richness is paired with a light and refreshing mouthfeel, resulting in a truly elevated and elegant drinking experience.
Please enjoy this short video from Master of Wine Michael Broadbent (who is considered by some to be the world’s preeminent wine authority) reviewing today’s wine. In the video, he compares today’s wine to a Bollinger R.D., which is one of the finest Champagnes produced in France. Cheers!
Please note that today’s recently disgorged wine is best enjoyed soon, but if you lay your bottles down in a cool, dark place, it’ll be wonderful for the next few years. In fact, open up a bottle each year, just to see how the wine is progressing.
