The 2009 QED offers complex aromatics, seductive texture, concentrated mid-palate, and a very long finish. The aromatics consists of a beguiling note of kirsch, supported by notes of cedar, spice, vanilla, earth, lavender, dark chocolate, and white pepper. On the palate the complexity continues with notes of kirsch, raspberry, blueberry, spice, black truffle, gravel, scorched earth, and smoked meat. Nuances of vanilla, white pepper, and tar can also be found. This wine has the signature of all the Rasa wines: gorgeous mouthfeel, exquisite balance, cashmere-like tannins, and a long, resonant finish. Although one cannot be faulted for opening the wine now, it will continue to improve for the next 6-8 years and will hold for approximately 15-20 years.
92 Point Review - Stephen Tanzer Good bright red. Lovely perfume of red cherry, rose petal and spices. Juicy, spicy and supple, with enticing floral lift to the red berry, cherry and spice flavors. Creamy and ripe but with a very restrained sweetness. A politely styled Rhone blend but Billo Naravane says the animal character will come.
91 Point Review - Wine Enthusiast Full and complex, this Syrah-dominated Rhône-style blend includes Grenache and Mourvèdre, and it’s cofermented with a splash of Viognier. The luscious cranberry and raspberry flavors are annotated with citrus, red licorice and wet stone accents. Suggestions of tropical fruits, such as papaya and pineapple, add more interest.
