Rachel Ann Passalacqua met Eugene “Pete” Seghesio when he purchased her father’s grapes from the San Lorenzo vineyard in southernmost Alexander Valley. In 1956, the couple was married. Seghesio Farms now manages that same vineyard, purchased in 1896 by Rachel Ann’s grandfather for the sum of 10 gold coins. At that time, the vineyard was already planted to and producing a Zinfandel field blend. Today, it represents the oldest heritage vineyard site we farm.
Tasting Notes Juicy flavors of wild blackberry and briary fruit join with age-worthy tannins and subtle French oak undertones.
Vintage Notes The 2010 vintage is the coldest on record over the past 40 years. Cool, wet, foggy spring conditions lingered into summer. Canopies were opened to take advantage of greater fruit exposure to encourage ripening and to stave off mildew pressure. In late August, a heat wave hit Northern Sonoma County.
