Mission Codename Timmering or shimmering?
“A super-smart buy…” – Decanter
Thank you, Decanter, we appreciate the kind compliment!
When we let Agent Noir know that MLG was coming, he almost had a heart attack thinking it was Martin Lee Gore of Depeche Mode in town.
Calm down, Noir. Actually, scratch that - stay pumped. Because it’s only your favorite Southern Hemisphere hidden gem, coming back into town for a one-time show. And you’re invited.
The ticket price? Just a hair over $20!!
It’s hard to recall an all-star red like this. Almost $20 with 95-points, and lest we forget the TRIPLE 94s it rightfully earned from all over the globe.
If you are open-minded about its practical and highly dependable closure, the kind you interject “screw it” which makes it all the more easy and quick to access the straight up goodness inside, this is your jam. Packed with lucid layers of spices and herbs, olive brine, violets, fresh ground peppercorn, currants and blackberriess as Wine Enthusiast noted in their 94-point Editor’s Choice review.
It’s hard to remember finding a similar wine with this type of head-spinning complexity. A “complete” wine at an astounding price that only the Aussies can deliver. This stuff will rock your face off, for real!
Wine Advocate also provides the compelling background: “Mount Langi Ghiran is out there – literally. Its location in the heart of the Grampians is incredibly remote and has a far cooler growing season than many might imagine until you consider it is placed at an altitude of around 350 meters. Amongst the ancient granite mountains of this region, the vineyards were originally planted in 1964, establishing this estate as one of Australia’s leaders of cool climate Shiraz.” Wine Spectator sums it up well, “Mount Langi Ghiran is known for its crisp, vibrant style of Victorian Shiraz.”
The beauty of it is, you can get all that today being an Operative, for a mere 21 dollars!
Back the truck up and remember, all good things, like this little pile of 95-pointer that costs less than a grass-fed grain finished ribeye, must come to an end eventually. Do not let it slip away!
95 Points – Decanter “A super-smart buy, with kaleidoscopic spicy lift of black and white pepper, star anise and cinnamon to the bramble-fruited nose and palate. Saturating acidity and a raft of fine but textured, immersive tannins make for a dynamic, buoyant mouthfeel. Tapering and super-fluid, the elegant finish features spicy pimento, green peppercorn, with meaty and graphite/granite undertones. Drink 2024-2034.”
94 Points, Editors’ Choice – Wine Enthusiast “A heady nose opens with lucid layers of spices and herbs, olive brine, violets, fresh ground peppercorn, currants and blackberries. There’s polished dark chocolate oak influence. The palate is chiseled, silky and slinky but with curves and shape, sculpted by fine, savory, pepper-flecked tannins. This is a complete and detailed wine now but has the potential to cellar several more years.”
94 Points – James Halliday “It’s spicy and well fruited but mostly it’s an exercise in putting all the various components exactly where they should be. Everything here feels exact, and exacting. Red cherried fruit, black pepper notes, integrated cedar oak and drifts of assorted florals, all of which hone to a long, peppery finish. It’s mid-weight at most and it’s all it needs to be. This is the kind of wine that gives elegance its good name.”
94 Points – Winepilot “Beautiful, perfumed aromas greet from the start, cherry and dark plum with a spicy raspberry nuance. The palate is medium bodied and elegantly presented with those cherries and blackberry flavours emerging with a little sprinkle of pepper and dried herbs. The oak is well-weighted with the fine chalky tannins in support.”
