Mission Codename a Wall worth climbing
This is a hot little ticket you were quick enough to find. The Walls is a super boutique and premium project out of Walla Walla worth falling in love with!
The brain behind the mission is Mike Martin. He is also the brain behind Passatempo Taverna, Agent Vine’s favorite cuisine in Walla Walla as well as PÁŠXA, a Rocks District focused brand that celebrates the rustic elegance of one of the quickest up and coming AVAs in the country. A New York native, he brings humor and a high standard to his winemaking practice.
The name? The winery website says it most perfectly. “…sometimes, walls are boundaries that hold us back by trading freedom and adventure for certainty and comfort.” And it is clear they know that great wine is made from the winemaker’s ability to deal with discomfort and uncertainty.
Seriously, the wine is killer. Complex and intriguing. Blackberry brambly paired with bright red fruit preserve. Savory olive and spice round out the profile with elegant touches of ginger and vanilla.
Gorgeous and age-worthy under $50?!
Oh, did we mention 95 points from Dunnuck? Well if that’s not enough, move on. This one is too limited for non believers anyways!
95 points— Jeb Dunnuck “The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon comes all from Red Mountain and was fermented all in concrete with the idea of a soft, gentle extraction to manage the Red Mountain tannins. Aged 19 months in 70% new French oak, its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a beautiful perfume of crème de cassis, blackberries, crushed rocks, and sappy green herbs. With medium to full-bodied richness, subtle background oak, and ripe yet present structure, it’s a brilliant Cabernet that’s going to benefit from short-term cellaring and keep for 15+ years.”
