Mission Codename Especial!
VERY Special Selection…
94 points from Wine Spectator. At a Caymus industry event earlier this year, it offered everything you’d hope for - straight decadence, or as the review notes, “Flashy” and CHOCK full of deep fruit. We all fell in love with the wine we tasted and then we grabbed every bottle allocated so that you could have these!
According to Wine Spectator “Special Selection has been named Wine of the Year in 2 vintages (a record), but Chuck Wagner is not one to rest on his laurels. He’s always learning from the past and looking toward the future.”
This may be the last chance to pile up before it inevitably sells out! It’s already out there on retail shelves at $300+ so once it breaks that record again, $500 is the next step. Or $195, here, the best price around.
Quite possibly the most recognized Cabernet from Napa needs no introduction. Love it or leave it, you have to recognize it as one of the most popular wines in the world. And Special Selection takes things up a notch, or two.
In each vintage, Caymus sets aside the best barrels of their Napa Valley Cabernet to produce a Special Selection. Distinguished by extremely fine, velvety tannins and enjoyable upon release or with aging. A wine of structure with an intense concentration of supple flavors and dark fruits.
Powerful and loaded with silky black fruit, buttery soft tannins, and a seamless integration of expensive oak. It serves up GOBS of blackberry, cherries, crème de cassis, black licorice, sweet violets, melted dark chocolate, plums, vanilla, and much more. Always opulent, and a huge crowd-pleaser, but also something you might want to just hoard for your own personal enjoyment.
Oh, and according to Wine-Searcher again you’re looking at one of “The 10 Most Popular Napa Wines in the World” in 2023… and wine? “For fans of the bold style.”
Just sayin’ Be quick!
94 Points – Wine Spectator
“Flashy, with boysenberry and mulberry pâte de fruit notes that roll through, throwing off licorice snap and açaí berry notes as well. Ends with a high-gloss toasty finish, but the fruit pushes through easily as apple wood and mint notes add range. For fans of the bold style. Drink now through 2040.”
