Mission Codename To the max
“I hate the fact that I loved this so much…” – Vivino review
Zero reason to hate when you’re paying way, WAY less than you would at the winery.
Seriously!! With a $115 release price for this fresh Cabernet from the epic 2021 vintage, I could feel that way. But we’re crashing through the floorboards and landing at $36 today! No hate, just pure love!!
Maxville delivers again. If you had their wines (we featured their ‘Oranos’ and Sauv Blanc) in the past, you already know this. With Jean Hoefliger (of Alpha Omega, The Debate, etc.) as their winemaker, lofty expectations have once again been signed, sealed, and delivered for a steal.
Maxville is a rather young winery, started in 2014. But the 1,100-acre property in Chiles Valley just north of Napa has a long history behind it. What began life as a camp for children in the 1960s eventually was resurrected as a state-of-the-art winery where breathtaking architecture, stunning views, and incredible wines can be found.
Circling back to the wine. Trust your local Napa Cab-hunting Agents - this has what you want! Power, intensity, and gobs of smooth, ripe fruit. Pure and focused layers of blues and blacks - blackberries and plums - with dried flowers, pencil lead, drops of melted dark chocolate plus a dusting of toasty spices.
To echo another reviewer, “Love Cakebread and Caymus and would put it in the same category.” Fair observation, taste-wise. But good luck finding either of those for anywhere near today’s price!
What Jean Hoefliger himself said when signing on, “From the moment I set foot on the property, I was immediately struck by the beauty and the history, Maxville is truly a hidden gem and has all the essential ingredients to become one of the next iconic wineries in Napa Valley. My team and I are proud to join the Maxville family and are excited to share this brand with many more friends and wine lovers here and across the globe in the years to come.”
And again, on a vintage like 2021? Rated 97 points by Wine Spectator for “fresh, vibrant and powerfully fruited wines, showing precision, floral lift and a sense of place. This vintage cements the new style in Napa…”
