Mission Codename In theory and practice
You thought it was the Maxville from last week? Introducing the next best bargain wine from all-star winemaker Jean Hoefliger. Nearly everything he makes scores big. He’s turned loose many big gun Cabs from Alpha Omega, AXR, and The Debate. Heck, he’s even made some for the famed Lynch Bages.
This bargain-priced offering from him didn’t quite get there but it did pull a healthy 94 points from Decanter and with nearly 60% OFF from us it’s an absolute must-have for just about everyone. It will be one of the most re-requested offers of the year, without a doubt.
If you love his Medlock Ames, AXR, and others, you’d FLIP for this one especially when you see the price. From $80 down to the mid-$30s?? C’mon, you cannot find another Hoefliger Cab anywhere near that. Heck, it’s tough to find a decent Napa Cab at that price considering the average cost has topped $100 according to Forbes.
Ok… got some? Good. Pop one open when it lands on your door and revel in the violets and lavender aromas. Every sip brings everything you long for in a great Napa Cab - the deep blue and black fruit, the spice and toastiness from 18 months in French oak. Add some cocoa nibs, a little sweet roasted coffee and It’s polished, soft, and brings a level of luxury that’s darn impressive for a wine at this price!
We do have the 2019 vintage to underline how good a deal this is, per Decanter “California’s premier Cabernet Sauvignon region has delivered a beautifully classic vintage in 2019, showcasing balance, energy and tension. The best are incredibly approachable, already showing intricate layers of complexity through the vivid upfront dark fruit, but also boast the structure to cellar for decades thanks to ultra-fine tannins and ample acid tension.”
Exactly so in this case. Just like the Kale, there was not much of this to last long - unfortunately.
94 Points – Decanter “Consultant winemaker Jean Hoefliger seeks cooler sites in Napa (Yountville and Oak Knoll) with the aim of making a fruity, upfront, accessible wine. Grapes were fermented in stainless steel with 18 days of skin contact before aging 18 months in 40% new oak. Very pretty nose of dark black fruits, purple flowers, and heady minerals. Layered, bright and fresh the berry-driven palate is supported by a framework of firm tannins. A joyful, pleasure-filled red. Drinking window 2022-2038.”
