Mission Codename The X factor
Sleepy Saturday? This oughta wake y’all up.
At nearly $90 from the winery with 93 Decanter points, this small production Cab easily goes up against many $100+ Napa Cabs.
And at our price it straight up CLOBBERS anything in its path. A seismic 75% OFF bringing it down to $22?!
An easy “case me” buy.
Travel just north of Napa and you land in Lake County - about ten miles from Howell Mountain, in fact. Here you’ll find some exceedingly high-quality Cabs, without the “Napa tax.” There’s a good reason why visionaries like Fred Schrader, Stéphane Derenoncourt, and Andy Beckstoffer have all been quietly investing in land here.
Macedon is a younger label, with 14 years under its belt. Focused on small lots, say 1-2 barrels of each release, and mostly Cabernet for starts. Then, a decade after inception they bumped up production to 18 barrels, and the “Decade X” was born.
And with Robert Smith at the winemaking helm, you can trust what’s inside the bottle will deliver. He began at Covert Estate working under Julian Fayard and moved to head a winemaking position at Operative favorite Quixote too.
Extracted and plush, with saturating dark fruit, makes this a total crowd pleaser. A full-bodied effort busting at the seams with blackberry jam concentrated black cherry and shaved TCHO chocolate. Well-integrated, toasty sweet oak holds it together and it has a soft, round mouthfeel. This thing just POPS with flavor, and over-delivers in a huge way at our price - DO NOT MISS!!
93 Points – Decanter “Sourced from one of the finest sites in Lake County, this wine features a blend of red and black fruits, complemented by warm baking spices. It offers generous medium to full-bodied richness, with fine-grained tannins and an easy-drinking quality that builds to a ripe, juicy, herb-dusted finish.”
