“A laser beam of wild berry flavors…”
Jim Gordon NAILED it in his Wine Enthusiast review below.
This packs a TON of enjoyment for a mere $22. But knowing Shannon Family, we’re not at all surprised.
Clay Shannon has quietly collected 2,000 acres of prime winegrowing real estate with one simple goal: make wines to rival the best of the best from neighboring regions. Just above Napa, at the tip of the Mayacamas range, you’ll find Lake County, where most of the Shannon Family wines are made.
Then he heard the Giannecchini family in Mendocino was primed to sell land they farmed for over a century. And he jumped at the opportunity. This ‘19 Giannecchini Old-Vine Zin proves he was right to stake a claim on this legendary site.
With vines planted between 1910 and 1920 this dry-farmed vineyard has everything you hope for to power a top Zinfandel. Balsamic steeped strawberries, maraschino cherries, and brambly blackberries provide the core of fruit. While spiced black tea, turned earth, and wisps of allspice and clove provide the backup for extra complexity. If you like Zin, or any similarly fruit-laden, drink-me-now reds, you cannot go wrong here.
Only $22!! An absolute must-have, but is there enough to go around?? We’ll find out…
92 Points – Wine Enthusiast
“Pure, focused and concentrated, this full-bodied wine shows a laser beam of wild-berry flavors that are nicely shaped by moderate tannins and a slightly tangy balance. Delicious now through at least 2029”
