Mission Codename Fountain of youth
Deep Cover: Fine art AND fine bubbles? Yes, please!
Foremost luxury lifestyle publication Robb Report calls it a “legendary Champagne, housed in an instantly recognizable Art Nouveau-style bottle.”
How can one resist? Just released from the “outstanding” 2015 vintage per Wine Spectator with “generous wines of good intensity and balance” this is where elegance meets decadence.
Arguably the most archetypical of sparkling luxury, the venerable Fleur de Champagne - “the flower of Champagne” - Perrier-Jouët’s Belle Epoque is a tribute to the dawn of the 20th century and timeless Art Nouveau of the era. As a symbol of elegance, grace and nobility that only the finest of Champagnes can represent, there are very few gifts on earth that can convey eternal love as exquisitely.
Let’s step back in time to 1810, when Épernay-based cork merchant Pierre Nicolas Perrier married Rose Adélaide Jouët. Successors Henri Gallice and his younger brother Octave were both art lovers, but while Henri managed the family business in Épernay, Octave spent much of this time in Paris, during the ‘Belle Epoque’ - those heady years at the start of the 20th century when France was swept along by whirlwind progress. Drawing on his passion for botany and inspired by Japanese white anemones he commissioned Art Nouveau pioneer Emile Gallé, to design 4 magnums enameled with this delicate motif. Delivered in 1902, these became an iconic emblem, not only of the prestigious cuvée but also of Perrier-Jouët itself.
Fast forward to this century, one of the oldest wines in the world, verified by Guinness Book of Records, was a 1825 vintage Perrier-Jouët opened and tasted in 2009 when Master of Wine Serena Sutcliffe said that “it must have been incredibly powerful and extremely sweet when young” *while Michel Bettane of La Revue du Vin de France thought that its youthfulness was *“unbelievable.”
You know what else is unbelievable? Our price, while it lasts.
