Mission Codename Rocks!
“Even if you believe the idea of ‘terroir’ is overused and abused in California, it’s hard to argue that Rockpile has it in spades.” – Wine Spectator
Rugged Meritage for OVER 60% off! YES!! For those unfamiliar with the term, ‘Meritage’ is a blending of ‘merit’ and ‘heritage’ and the term was chosen as the official word for New World wines crafted with traditional Bordeaux sensibilities. Fun fact: They had a contest with 6,000 entries to pick the term. The wines, known as complex, smooth, and robust beauties, actually have to be licensed to use the term legally so you know what you’re getting is good.
This Rockpile Meritage is born from that small AVA high up in Dry Creek Valley. The high elevation (1,200 feet plus) and proximity to the Pacific Ocean (just 7 miles away) help make it one of the longest growing seasons in the state. That extra hang time and the rugged terroir deliver a structured and powerful wine similar to what you’d find on Diamond or Howell Mountain. But our deep deal here spits in the face of those Mountain wines with massive price tags!
It comes to us from the insanely reliable Wilson Artisan Wineries group. Their small portfolio of boutique wineries has been hugely popular year after year since their humble beginnings in the early 1990s. With wines scoring big with Wine Spectator and that impeccable track record of literally hundreds of Gold Medals from competitions, they are unrivaled, just like their other acclaimed sister properties: Mazzocco, Matrix, Pezzi King, and Wilson Winery to name a few.
Oh, and by the way, this scored a solid 94 points and a Gold at Press Democrat’s prestigious 2024 North Coast Wine Challenge competition, if you’re into those local credentials.
Expect a lush and well-structured mouthfeel with ideal balance. Flavors of pepper, black plums, and deep broody blackberries lay perfectly with touches of vanilla, and graphite. The raw power here is mouthwatering and will make you think you’re drinking well above the price you paid.
Drink with abandon, on any weeknight over the coming decade. This is big, bold and here for the aging.
All that for OVER 60% off Do not delay on this one!
