If you had the 2017 that we offered, prepare yourself – this one kicks it up a notch. With 95 points from Wine Independent and a 94 from James Suckling, it’s a certified winner.
Carl Doumani is the legend behind Quixote, and if you’ve been to the winery in Stags Leap District, you’ll feel like you fell straight down the rabbit hole. He commissioned famed Austrian architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser there to make this vision a reality.
Quixote’s wines have always been killer, and this is no exception. They’ve had a rotating cast of brilliant winemakers over the years, including Aaron Pott who helped put them on the map, and today they have one of the best, Phillipe Melka, who serves as their consulting winemaker alongside Robert Smith.
Fleshy and round, it serves up stacks of steeped cherries, roasted plum, fresh tobacco, sugared pie crust and toasty oak, with vanilla and cocoa-laced accents. It leans into the inky, intense side of the spectrum without going full Kool-Aid on the candied sweet confection style. Just Stags Leap Cab at its best.

95 Points – Wine Independent
“The 2018 Quixote Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep garnet-purple color. It leaps from the glass with vibrant notes of crushed blueberries, fresh blackcurrants, and black raspberries, with touches of lavender, wild sage, and cast-iron pan. The medium to full-bodied palate shimmers with energy, delivering loads of mineral-accented black and blue fruit layers, with a fine-grained texture and lovely tension, finishing long and vivacious. Drink 2024-2040.”
94 Points – James Suckling
“Beautiful aromas of dark fruit, orange peel and flowers follow through to a full body with round, juicy tannins that are polished and delicious. Luscious fruit on the finish. Drink in 2023, but already beautiful.”
