Mission Codename A must in the dust

“Talks of history.” – James Suckling

If we had to force you to buy one wine this year, this might be it.

If you’re one of our many Cab aficionados and have been Cali-Rhône-curious, this is the path to enlightenment.

And we’re making it easy. You’d pay $75-80 for this any other day of the year. We’re busting it out for an absurdly honest $27!! Ultra small production, insanely high quality, made by a pro, from a top vineyard - it has it all.

Our good Cab master winemaker friend Bobby Moy of Chiron even said “hands down the 2017 Kale Heritage McGah Vineyard from Rutherford” in response to a recent discussion on kale (the vegetable - he didn’t understand the question but that’s beside the point…)

Now you’ve probably never heard of Kale Anderson. But maybe you know Colgin, Cliff Lede, or Terra Valentine as some of the places he has made wine.

And you surely know of Pahlmeyer where Kale as head winemaker crafted their epic 2013 Piece de Resistance, AKA their first 100-pointer. That cemented his legacy, as the youngest winemaker to attain a perfect score from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate!

Basically, if the Bene Gesserit bred for winemaking Kale would be the Kwisach Haderact of wine.

For the past decade or so he’s been making wine under his own label. He only makes about a thousand cases a year. And just 100 cases of this wine. Not much makes it outside his tasting room or mailing list - and this is exactly the kind of locals-only deal we LOVE to bring to the masses.

And this is easily one of his best. The magic starts with McGah Vineyard, a legendary site on the Oakville border of Rutherford wrapped by Beckstoffer vineyards. Only a few select producers work with this fruit – Bevan, Fayard, and Scarlett being the best known.

Do you like wild raspberry? Strawberry rhubarb pie and fig jam? Hints of cinnamon rolls, smoked meats, baked plums, and more find their way into the mosh pit of flavors. Velvety, rich, and heady… hedonistic even. Shows the intensity, power, polish, and richness to make ALL of you happy without knocking your palate around. On the finish, per a brilliant CellarTracker review it “goes hedonistic… enjoyed the ride!”

At least, the ones who move quickly enough to get some. After we pillaged a few cases, not much of this gem…

93 Points – James Suckling

“A balanced and fresh red with plum, strawberry, and cherry. Hints of walnut and vanilla, too. Medium body. Creamy finish. Drink now.”

91 Points – Jeb Dunnuck

“Coming from vineyards in Rutherford and made from 90% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre, the 2017 Grenache Heritage sports medium ruby/plum hue as well as a great nose of spiced darker cherries, herbes de Provence, and spice box. It’s ripe, medium-bodied, has good richness, and a delicious, balanced profile that will evolve for 7-8 years.”
