Mission Codename Northern lights again?
“…freshness, outstanding aging potential, and beautiful purity and depth… one of the finest sources of top-quality wine on Spring Mountain.” – Robert Parker
I might have slept right through the once-in-a-lifetime Aurora Borealis, but damn if I’ll miss out on a second rare phenomenon in a week.
We’re talking of course about getting this DOUBLE 94-point (with a plus!) Spring Mountain powerhouse for a mind-bending $180 OFF the winery release price. And we’re in full agreement with the pro’s notes about its “densely laden” flavors, and “ample concentration.”
You really cannot go wrong with Cab from Spring Mountain, period, whether it’s Pride Family, Fantesca, Lokoya, or any of the other highly respected, much sought-after (and quite pricey) institutions. Perry Butler started Juslyn with his wife Carolyn in 1997. It took just one look at a steep 42-acre hillside estate to decide this was the place. Decades later, they’re rolling deep with dozens of bigger and bigger scores.
This has that DEEP, plush, inky character you crave. A flood of roasted blackberries, vanilla creme, cassis, and supple leather held together with expensive French oak sets the stage. Medium to full-bodied, with modest acidity, and a long finish. It will probably hold onto most of its stuffing for decades. But let’s be real - we’ll be drinking most of ours over the course of weeks.
Finite stash, the countdown has begun.
94+ Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
“The outstanding 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District boasts complex aromas of sage, bay leaf, black cherries, and cassis, plus some slightly mossy, foresty notes. Aged entirely in French oak (60% new), the wine is full-bodied, dense, and rich, with ample concentration and a ripe, velvety feel. Finishing tannic but ripe, this lingers a good long time, boding well for the future. Drink 2025-2040.”
94 Points - The Wine Independent
“The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon has 2% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc in the blend. Deep garnet-purple colored, it rolls out with cassis, blackberry preserves, and redcurrant jelly scents followed by suggestions of spice box, menthol, and black olives. The full-bodied palate is densely laden with black fruit preserves, framed by fine-grained tannins and compelling tension, finishing long and mineral-laced. Drink 2023-2038.”
