Founded, owned, and operated by Jim and Eliza Rickards, the history of the property goes back to the original 1908 Zinfandel field blend vines - the vineyard that produced Wine Spies’ inaugural Covert Cuvee, under the mastery of one of the most popular local winemakers we work with, David Scheidt of Mastro Scheidt Cellars - in Partnership with Wine Spies for this highly limited - only 4 barrels made - project. At a barrel tasting visiting his winery, we fell in love with this fruit.
At the northern end of Alexander Valley on Chianti Road, the Rickards Ranch is a family-owned and operated 60-acre vineyard. Grapes from the ranch provide several local wineries with some of their best fruit that is sustainably farmed on the ranch showing Alexander Valley’s best character traits and true pride of work. The Rickards consider themselves more than just winemakers for their own label, rather as stewards of this special historic property.
