“Ross Cobb’s 2021 Pinot Noirs are the best wines he has ever made… as always, Cobb crafts Pinots that exalt freshness and verve.” – Vinous
Said 2021 Cobb Pinots all earned 94-97 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
But they go for $70-135 per bottle. So where do you look for value by the same master? You guessed it, Furthermore!
Per the winery, “This crowd favorite is a ‘stone’s throw blend’ of Furthermore’s Sebastopol estate Graton Ridge Vineyard plus one across the street, and one adjacent to the north, O’Connell Vineyard. The adjacent vineyard to the south is Paul Hobbs’.” Yet those go for TRIPLE what you’re paying for this neighborhood today. A stone’s throw away are names like Kistler, Lynmar, and Dutton Estate from spots as good as Russian River Pinot sources get, basically.
What greets you are complex aromas of dried strawberries, cherries and flowers following through to a medium-to-fuller bodied beauty with silky texture, and a long sappy, savory finish. This Pinot decidedly begs to be savored; a bottle seems not enough. Buy a ton, open a few young, or rest them up for a half decade or so to build complexity furthermore, pun intended.
Back to Vinous helping explain why for 2021 in the Russian River Valley “The wines are fabulous. Although Pinot Noir yields were not heavily impacted, the 2021s are generally potent, brooding wines with dark fruit profiles and tons of textural depth… balance in the young 2021 Pinots is superb.”
Superb you say? Agreed. Totes. Run - don’t walk to checkout.
93 Points – Wine Enthusiast
“Lush and mouth-filling, yet also vibrant with tangy acidity, this mouth-watering wine brings on the red and black cherries, cinnamon and raspberry flavors backed by moderate tannins. Its great balance will help it age quite well for several years. Best through 2030.”
