Mission Codename Lush indeed
Well that Random Ridge was too little of a good thing! All gone! Luckily, we have more goodness to come!
We can’t get enough of Cabernet Sauvignon, no matter where it’s from or what it looks like. Honestly, we go through pallets here at Wine Spies HQ.
And this is one for the record books! For less than the price of the epic steak you’ll want to cook with it, this beauty is from a region you should know about.
Southern Fleurieu in Australia is a lesser-known area south of Adelaide and known for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Reisling. The growing season is slightly cooler than Adelaide and extra-long, making for elegant and nuanced wines that will blow your mind.
Nangkita is the Southern Fleurieu’s most acclaimed vineyard. With plenty of accolades to boast, the elevated site sits between McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek. Los Angeles Times once wrote, “Just 27 miles south of Adelaide, the capital of the state of South Australia, is a little-known Mediterranean-style region called the Fleurieu Peninsula with world-class wines…”
As is expected from this region, this wine is balanced with brilliant acidity. Black raspberries, currants, and cedar notes on the nose lead perfectly into a palette of thyme, stone fruit, and chocolate nibs. Fine chalky tannins come into play with a beautifully balanced body.
This wine is for the true Cab lovers among us, but this is no over-extracted bad boy. A classy beauty that you will fall in love with quickly! But you better buy quickly too, there’s only so much!
And at twenty-two bucks!? Deal!
94 Points – Wine Orbit
“Bold and richly fragrant, the bouquet shows blackcurrant, mulberry, thyme and elegant oak characters, followed by a beautifully flavoursome palate offering excellent weight and persistency. Well structured by fine chalky tannins, making it wonderfully structured and persistent. At its best: now to 2036.”
