Mission Codename Get your pom-poms ready
Like finding a bismuth crystal in your backyard, or a white peacock strutting down the street. Utterly unbelievable, really, but not as wild as this.
We’re talking about 93 POINT POMEROL! But here’s the really crazy part.
Under…$30?!
Pomerol is of the most prestigious Bordeaux AOCs and is also its smallest. Home to greats like Petrus, Le Pin, Vieux Château Certan, Clinet, Le Pin… the list goes on and on. And the prices go up and up.
Granted, this is not on the level of those highly rated classified growths, but it does drink MILES above its price. We normally expect Pomerol to start in the $60s and rarely get an opportunity to flex any under $30.
As for the vineyard? It sits just outside the village of Catusseau, neighboring Château Plince, a Christian Moueix property. So we are talking pampered terroir here, where Merlot leads, and thrives like nowhere else on the planet.
But ultimately the proof is on the glass…
A complex nose offers fresh plums, black cherry, cassis, boysenberry, dark chocolate, and sweet baking spices. The palate is the best part though, a wine of seamless texture, generous layer upon layer of brighter fruit, supple tannins, pencil shavings, and a meaty undertone. The pedigree here is through the roof especially given the humble price, this can easily compete with wines 10 times its price in this prized region. If you pair it with a balsamic marinated or glazed skirt, flank, or hanger steak, a memorable dinner is guaranteed any day.
This top-of-the-line cuvée is proudly a Wine Spies exclusive too, you won’t find this beauty elsewhere, or perhaps ever again… so back le camion up!
93 Points – Wine Enthusiast
“A fine, bold wine with rich tannins and juicy acidity, this Merlot-dominated wine is powerful and concentrated. Spicy, smoky, the tannins still softening, the wine will be ready from 2024.”
