Mission Codename Supercharged
Fair warning: this is one of the most flat-out delicious, captivating Cabernets we’ve tasted in a long, long time. And guess what? You’re only going to find it here, today, from Wine Spies.
World exclusive baby!
That’s right, our buddy David Scheidt allocated his only 2 barrels of this gorgeous Dry Creek Cab for us. And that price?! We must have cashed in some karma to get a $95 Cabernet down to $29.
We got our cases doing our best to save enough for a day. Now it’s your turn.
You’ll recall Mastro Scheidt. He was one of our favorite new discoveries at the last Garagiste festival in Sonoma. Winemaker David Scheidt is a true tour de force who crafts some damn tasty stuff. When not creating insanely good wines, meals, or fire memes, he’s just a plain ole’ nice guy.
Anyways, this wine. WOW. Young. From the 2019 vintage - actually the first Cab we’ve tasted from that year and if this is any indication, good things are coming. So FRESH. Alive! It has an almost Zinfandel-like vibe to it. Gobs of concentrated, ripe fruit with an almost electrified quality like it was charged with 220v current. A dense, deep cascade of red raspberry jam, sweet black cherries, and warm Crème Anglaise comes rushing across a medium body. And such soft, silky tannins for a youngin! Straight up, this drinks like a heavyweight champ in its first bout out of the training camp. We’re trying to resist drinking it all but it surely has a long, long road ahead.
Thinking backward, we kept wondering WHY this Cab is SO stupendous. A little probing on the “Casa Privada” bit revealed an epic fact. If vineyard SOURCE matters, and surely it does, Casa Privada is legit as can be. Because it shares the same land as Kinsella and right next door is the Heirloom Vineyard, source of a $150 Cabernet vinified by none other than Thomas Rivers Brown. Arguably the pickiest cult winemaker in America works with this land, a testament to its quality. And this land powered the only DCV Cab to ever score over 95 points. The secret is now out.
What you’re getting here is an ultra-honest wine, crafted by a truly artisanal, family-oriented vintner. A screaming good buy at a whisper of a price. The easy front runner for Cab of the Year so far.
Who else can bring you a Cabernet coup like this?! Super pumped and proud about this one!!
Get some and thank us later.
